
The paradoxes of sustainable business
When old world logics meet new world practices paradoxes also emerge. The concept of ‘green munitions’, biodegradable plastics for missiles, ‘reduced smoke grenades’ and ‘quieter warheads’ from the weapons industry is a case in point.
‘Weapons are going to be used and when they are, we try to make them as safe for the user as possible, to limit the collateral damage and to impact as little as possible on the environment,’ the director of corporate social responsibility at munitions and defence systems manufacturer, British Aerospace (BAE), argued a couple of years ago in this mind-provoking article.
